Hutchins Farm is one of the oldest and largest certified organic vegetable, fruit, and cut flower operations in Massachusetts. Organic since 1973, Hutchins grows over 40 acres of vegetables, about an acre of small fruit, half an acre of cut flowers, and 4 acres of apples. We sell our produce directly to consumers at our farm stand in Concord, MA, and at three weekly farmers’ markets, with a small amount of sales to local restaurants.

Co-Harvest Manager – Now accepting applications for the 2026 season
Hutchins Farm is seeking experienced and energetic candidates for one of our Co-Harvest Manager positions for the 2026 season. Two Co-Harvest Managers lead our team of field crew over the course of the season. They work in tandem to ensure our sales outlets are stocked appropriately, the crew is productive and supported, and tasks are carried out properly.

The Co-Harvest Manager will be responsible, in cooperation with their co-manager, for:

  • Leading the field crew in harvests and other tasks, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely with attention to quality standards, and modeling appropriate work pace and protocols.
  • Training new crew members, teaching them proper work and harvest techniques.
  • Developing daily harvest lists in collaboration with the Farm Manager and the Farm Stand Manager.
  • Helping scout for pests, diseases or other problems encountered during daily harvests, and communicating crop conditions, abundance or scarcity to the managers—this involves estimating yields, adjusting harvest numbers to reflect availability and quality, and keeping track of plantings that are approaching maturity.

Qualifications:

  • At least one full season of experience working on a diversified vegetable farm
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Some experience and comfort instructing and managing other workers
  • Ability to quickly pick up new concepts and techniques and then teach them to others
  • Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly
  • Ability to work in uncomfortable weather conditions
  • A valid driver’s license and a driving record good enough to be added to our auto insurance policy.
  • Enthusiasm for and strong interest in the cultivation of food crops
  • Meticulous attention to detail

The Co-Harvest Manager position will run from April 1stuntil mid-November, with a possibility of limited winter employment both in March and after November. Compensation ranges from $19/hr-$21/hr depending on experience, with a $0.50 per hour worked year-end bonus, plus free vegetables from the farm. Position is full time – five days a week – and all applicants must be able to work at least one weekend day. For the majority of the season the workday starts at 6:45am and usually goes until 4 or 4:30pm, with an unpaid hour for lunch.

Machinery Operator – Now accepting applications for the 2026 season
Hutchins Farm is seeking a Machinery Operator with long term agricultural aspirations to join our team beginning in spring of 2026. The Machinery Operator will work under the direction of the Farm Manager and the Assistant Farm Manager mostly with tractor related tasks at Hutchins Farm.

Our tractors include old IH Farmall models we use for cultivation, high clearance offset models from the 1980s used for cultivation and seeding, and 40-100 HP utility tractors (several with loaders) to execute other tasks such as tillage, spraying, loading and unloading trucks, and mowing. Timely, accurate and efficient execution of machinery operations is critical to the day-to-day operation and long-term success of our farm.

The Tractor Operator’s responsibilities will include:

  • Tractor operations- including subsoiling, plowing, disking, seeding, planting, cultivation, spraying, mowing, and material handling.
  • Assisting with crop planning, harvest operations, and occasionally working with our field crew
  • Deployment of wildlife exclusion fencing and Irrigation equipment
  • Machinery and building repair
  • Other aspects of the operation depending on the needs of the farm, and the interest and aptitude of the individual.

Qualifications:

  • Some experience and comfort operating moderate sized tractors, including experience hooking up and using three-point hitch and drawbar implements, and operating a front-end loader. We will provide extensive training using our specific equipment, but we are looking for a person who already has a good grasp of the fundamentals of operating and maintaining farm machinery.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly
  • Ability to work in uncomfortable weather conditions
  • A valid driver’s license and a driving record good enough to be added to our auto insurance policy.

Position is full time during the ‘growing season’ (April through November) – five days a week – and all applicants must be able to work at least one weekend day. For the majority of the season the workday starts at 6:45am and usually goes until 4 or 4:30pm, with an unpaid hour for lunch. There is possible part-time employment during the off-season months. Ideally, a mutually satisfactory first season would be followed by ongoing employment with expanded roles and responsibilities.

Compensation ranges from $20/hr – $24/hr depending on experience, with a $0.50 per hour worked year-end bonus, plus free vegetables from the farm.

Assistant Flower Grower Now accepting applications for the 2026 season
Hutchins Farm is seeking an Assistant Flower Grower to join our team for the 2026 season. This is a full time seasonal  position that combines working about 3 days a week in our cut flower operation under the direction of our Greenhouse/Cut Flower Manager, with working on our field crew about two days a week under the direction of our Harvest Managers.

The Assistant Flower Grower’s cut flower responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Greenhouse/Cut Flower Manager with all aspects of the cut flower program, including seeding, planting, weeding, staking and harvesting a wide variety of cut flower species, along with other tasks associated with maintaining these crops
  • Preparing cut flowers for sale – including bunching and wrapping
  • Helping keep production and sales records for cut flowers.

The Assistant Flower Grower’s field crew responsibilities include:

  • Under the direction of our Harvest Managers: participating in planting, weeding, maintenance, and harvesting of vegetable and herb crops along with our field crew
  • There is the possibility of work at our farmers markets if interested. 

Qualifications:

  • No experience necessary, but need an enthusiasm for plants and working outside
  • Punctuality, reliability, attention to detail
  • Ability to follow oral instructions
  • Good communication skills with managers and co-workers
  • Work both independent and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Be comfortable working in a variety of weather conditions
  • A valid driver’s license and good enough driving record to be added to the farm auto insurance

This position is full time during the growing season (May through October), five days a week with one of those days required be a weekend day. Daily schedule is generally 7AM through 4  or 4:30PM with an hour unpaid for lunch. Pay range $16.50-$18 an hour depending on experience, with a $0.50 per hour worked year-end bonus contingent on completion of a time commitment agreement, plus free vegetables (and flowers) from the farm.

Greenhouse Assistant Now accepting applications for the 2026 season
Hutchins Farm is seeking a part-time seasonal greenhouse assistant for the 2026 season to assist our Greenhouse Manager in the production of plants to populate our own fields and to sell to local gardeners. The position begins in mid-to-late April and runs until mid-to-late July. The position involves working about 20-25 hours per week (exact schedule is negotiable).  

The Greenhouse Assistant’s responsibilities include:

  • Learning Hutchins Farm’s greenhouse systems
  • Propagating, transplanting and watering a large variety of plant species
  • Keeping up with greenhouse records and tracking
  • Helping scout for pests, diseases or other problems encountered in the greenhouse

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm, punctuality, and attention to detail
  • Be able to follow detailed oral and written instructions
  • Work both independently and cooperatively
  • Communicate well with managers and co-workers
  • Lift up to 40 pounds
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time

FIELD CREW Now accepting applications for the 2026 season
Hutchins Farm is seeking motivated individuals with an interest in farming, gardening, food, or just working outside, to work in our production fields this season.  Some help will be needed as early as late April, but most hands will be needed in early June through the end of October—individuals who can stay for three or more months will be given preference.
The work will vary, but will include: planting, weeding, harvesting, washing, and packing a wide variety of vegetables and small fruit.  Workers may also be involved in greenhouse work, grounds maintenance, sales in our Farm Stand or at Farmers’ Markets, irrigation, or other aspects of the operation based on the farm’s needs and the worker’s inclination.

Full time workers will be expected to work 5 days per week, and must work at least one weekend day. Part-time workers must be able to work 3 days a week, must work at least one weekend day. The workday starts at 7am and usually goes until 4 or 4:30pm, with an unpaid hour for lunch. Hourly pay begins at $16.50/hour with a $0.50 per-hour-worked year-end bonus contingent on completion of a time commitment agreement, plus free vegetables from the farm. There is potential for increases for longer term workers based on their performance and the overall performance of the farm. Applicants should be able to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly and be comfortable working in a variety of weather conditions. Housing is not available. FARM STAND CREW- Hiring for the 2026 season in late January
Hutchins Farm is seeking motivated, outgoing individuals to work in our busy Farm Stand and Farmers’ Market stalls.  Work involves washing and preparing produce for sale, building displays, creating signage, ringing up customers and keeping our sales area clean and welcoming.  Friendly, helpful demeanor is a must; interest in local, organic food and retail experience are desirable.

Applicants should be able to lift 50+ lbs, and be able to stand for long periods of time. Our Farm Stand is open from the beginning of June through the end of October. Applicants should be willing to commit to working at least one weekend day, preferably both. Full-time preferred, part-time possible–exact hours will depend on specific job description.  Farm stand workdays begin at 9am or 10am depending on the shift and end around 3:30pm or 6:30pm depending on the shift, with an unpaid hour for lunch. Farmers’ Market hours vary by the day. Pay based on experience and begins at $16.50/hour with a $0.50 per-hour-worked year-end bonus contingent on completion of a time commitment agreement, plus free vegetables from the farm.
